Christmas Stored Up

Psalm 31:19 “How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you…on those who take refuge in you.” (NIV)*

God’s goodness stored up is like Christmas presents bought in July, then hidden until just the right time. The anticipation is as great for the giver, as for the recipient. The recipient probably doesn’t even know gifts have been stored.

Consider this your heads-up. God has been wrapping Christmas presents and putting them in storage.

He’s been storing up goodness. His goodness consists of true wealth, such as fruit of the Spirit, someday heaven, unconditional love, and being forgiven–completely.

I don’t want to miss the goodness He may be longing to bestow. Like kids just before Christmas who wonder if they’ve been naughty or nice, am I fearing and taking refuge in Him?

Am I believing and taking Him at His Word? Do I have a healthy respect for His authority and power, then obey? Ouch.

When there’s a storm, is He my shelter and solace, my safe place? Am I hiding under His wings? Do I look for comfort, hope, and direction in His Word?

Maybe it’s time to wonder if I’m living in a way that frees Him to bestow. He longs to give His goodness as much as I long to receive it. And I sure don’t want to miss out on Christmas stored up…
