Thwarted arrows

“In the shelter of your presence you hide them … in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues.” Psalm 31:20

Where is the arrow

shot from enemy’s bow?

Where are the accusations

that have been thrown?

They’ve been thwarted,

diverted from my path.

Dispersed, fallen,

and of strength — sapped.

Keep me in your presence,

hidden in perfect love.

Safe from accusing tongues,

restored and ready to serve.

He shuts out accusing voices. He stills the echo of negative words and constant criticism. He quiets the soul. In His presence I am hidden, tucked under his sheltering wings — out of sight and out of mind from those who would bring down.

If you’re stumbling in the dark

“The unfolding of your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple.” Psalm 119:130

The Word is like a well-worn map that takes you different places every time you open it. It’s meant to be unfolded and used over and over again. It’s a reference to be sought out often, especially at pivotal turns.

The Word is a map that doesn’t fade with time. In fact, each reading of the same passage can bring new insights, brighter light, a different shade or a new angle. The discoveries get better and better.

God wants to illuminate our path and does so by giving guidance through His Word. He reveals road blocks and dead-ends. The Word gives boundaries for life and can let us know when to turn to the left or to the right. It shows the way to the Father’s love and His forever home, heaven.

Stumbling in the dark? Unfold His map and let His words light the way.

“Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Matthew 24:35

“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.'” Isaiah 30:21

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.” Psalm 119:9

Lead ever home

Psalm 48:14 “For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.” (NIV)*

May your voice

need only whisper,

May your hand

be mine to hold,

May your feet

leave prints to follow,

May your path

lead ever home.

Another way

Proverbs 16:9 “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” (NIV)*

I thought I knew the path to choose

My plans were all in place

But unexpected circumstance

Revealed another way.

Sometimes good, sometimes not

Interruptions change direction

It’s the Lord’s all-knowing hand

That seals my destination.

Ultimately, He is in control. He knows me better than I know me. He sees the hearts of others and how their lives will impact mine. He knows what the future holds. My part is to trust by placing my hand in his and taking the next step.

Proverbs 16:9 is from the May 29th reading of The One Year Bible.
